Janurary 27-31

Hi Families,

Just when I thought the weather was taking a turn for the warmth, today arrived!   Please make sure during these cold winter days that your child has pants on and brings a warm coat.  If the temperature is as high as 20 degrees we will take the kiddos out to recess.  However, if they are not dressed appropriately on these days, they will not be allowed outside.  There were a few disappointed children last week when they found out they had to stay inside.

Here are upcoming reminders:
Thurs., Feb. 6-- 3rd Grade Taste Fest (1:30) and International Festival program (3:00 and 7:00)
Tues., Feb. 11-- Field Trip to the Kansas City Symphony
                          Valentine's Day Party
Wed., Feb 12 and Thurs., Feb. 13-- Student-Led Conferences
Thurs. Feb. 12-Mon., Feb. 17-- NO SCHOOL- President's Weekend

International Festival Update
The International Festival Committe met last week to begin planning for the event.  Please make sure to use the sign-up genius if you can volunteer to help that day, and/or to let us know what food your child will be bringing to the festival.

The festival and program are next Thursday, Feb. 6.  The taste fest begins at 1:30 in the 3rd grade pod, and the music program will follow at 3:00 in the gym.  The boys and girls will ALSO have their evening performance at 7:00.  Mrs. Ronchetti has asked that the students arrive to school by 6:40 that evening.

Social Studies and Writing-
Research Report- Students have been doing such an amazing job researching information about their country.  On Friday, we began organizing all of that information and creating an outline with it.  This week, we will continue to organize the information and type out the reports.

Math
Students will continue to use fractions this week.  They will learn how to create equivalent fractions and how to put fractions into simplest form.

Spelling-
There is a new list in your child's Monday folder.  Many of the topics the students have been researching appear on this week's spelling list. The final test will be on February 7.

Have a wonderful week!  Try to stay warm!
