April 2-6

Hi Families,
Can you believe we are already in April?  It will be summer time before we know it. 
Today in Monday folders you will find a permission slip for our community walk to Scoops later this week.  Please sign that form and return it to me by Wednesday.

Also, the EnVision program does not have a fact practice component with it.  So many teachers at the school are beginning to use a website called Xtra Math to help their studetns practice their basic facts.  I sent home a sheet for every child in their Monday folders that provides you information on how to set up an account for your child.  Please use the code on that sheet to help you get your child logged in and started on their fact practices.  The website is http://www.xtramath.com/.

Reading-
The students will be reading and learning about the Solar System in our next theme.  The reading focus  for this theme is "Inferring Conclusions".
Each reading group is reading a book or novel at their reading level.  We are working on developing vocabulary and comprehension skills during our small group time.

Spelling-
The Rigby pattern this week is: adjectives.
The suffix list this week is:  -less, which mean 'without'.

Writing-
We will begin drafting a Persuasive Essay later this week.  The students will be taken through the steps of the writing process as they create a persuasive paper.

Science-
We are beginning a unit about "Matter" this week.  Students will learn about the 3 types of matter: solid, liquid and gas.
